The awesome thing about this Graduation jar is that you only need a few pieces of vinyl, and a mason jar. You can pick one up at almost any store, but recently I’ve seen these at the Dollar Tree.
As for the vinyl, it can be either permanent or adhesive. Since you’ll probably only be using this once during a graduation party, you can remove the decal after the party is over and reuse the jar for something else.
This is also a project that you can use your vinyl scraps for. Mason jars tend to not be very big, so it’s a perfect time to pull out all those small pieces you’ve been collecting them and put them to good use.
LET’S MAKE A DIY WORDS OF WISDOM GRADUATION JAR WITH CRICUT
Okay, so the steps are pretty easy, but I will walk you through this project, because there are some tips I’ve learned along the way that may be helpful to you.
Let’s get started!
The first thing you want to do is grab your jar and give it a good wipe with a paper towel soaked in rubbing alcohol. This will make it nice and clean, and the vinyl will stick much better to it.
Once you’ve wiped it, set it aside and let it dry.
You also want to take a ruler or your cutting mat to the jar and measure just how wide your design should be. We will adjust this once we’re inside of Design Space.
Next you’ll need to download the FREE Words of Wisdom for the Graduate SVG file from the bottom of this post.
You’ll need to open it up and bring it into Design Space, where you will size it according to the measurements from the jar that you got in Step 1.
Now you’re ready to send your design to cut with your Cricut.
Once it’s cut, weed it and pick it up from the vinyl backing with a piece of transfer tape.
Keep in mind that because this design is done in multiple vinyl colors, you’ll need to layer the vinyl pieces. To make this part easier, start with the biggest piece of text and then layer from there.
Now it’s time to place the design on the jar and finish this graduation jar craft project up!
To make sure that your jar doesn’t move while you’re applying the vinyl to it, you might want to grab a bath towel and roll it up lengthwise and then fold that in half to create a “cradle” for your jar.
Once you have the jar nice and steady, transfer the design on to it and use a scraper tool to really varnish it on the jar to prevent it from coming up.
And there you have it. You did it!
HERE’S HOW TO SET UP THE GRADUATION JAR
To set up the graduation jar for a party all you’ll need is some blank white cards, which you can make from cutting up white sheets of paper into squares, and a pen or two.
You can set this up by the entrance where people are likely to see the jar and stop by to take part in it. I like to place some balloons on whichever table I set the jar on to call attention to it.
At the end of the celebration take some time with your graduate to go through the advice that your loved ones left and maybe even add some of your own.
