This project is super beginner friendly, and scrap vinyl stash friendly as well.
Let’s get started!
What Do I Need To Make This Christmas Ornament?
Here are all the things I used to make this FREE We Believe Christmas Ornament.
- A Blank Clear Ornament
- Permanent Vinyl (You will need Red, White, and Black.)
- Transfer Tape (This is my favorite go-to transfer tape.)
- Alcohol Wipes (You can use a cotton ball and some rubbing alcohol if you don’t have wipes. I bought this huge box of Alcohol Wipes on Amazon for all my vinyl projects.)
- Your Cricut Cutting Machine With Design Space Readily Available

Before you begin cutting your design, you’ll want to make sure to measure just how wide and tall you’ll want it to be on the sign on the ornament.
The smaller, the easier it’ll be to place it, so keep that in mind.
To measure I like to use a measuring tape to figure out how many inches tall and wide my design should be exactly.
Try to concentrate on just the center, most outward part of the ornament.
Let’s Make A Christmas Ornament With Cricut!
STEP 1: Wipe Your Ornament With Alcohol To Prepare It For Vinyl. This step is SO important, so please don’t skip it.
In order to remove any debris that might be on the surface of the ornament or oils from handling it, you need to rub the entire surface of the ornament with alcohol and let it dry.
I always do this first, because it will dry as I’m cutting and weeding my design.
STEP 2: Upload the FREE We Believe Christmas Ornament SVG File to Design Space and size it according to the measurement you want it to be.
Remember to make sure the little lock icon is closed when you go to size your design to make sure it doesn’t get distorted and retains the correct size proportions.
What I like to do for ornaments is to place a circle shape in my Design Space Canvas, the same size as my ornament, and then align my design within that circle shape to get a good sense of how big it will be once I go to apply it.
I Cut My Ornament To A Size Of 1.6 Inches Tall.
The ornaments I used were 3 inch bulbs.
STEP 3: Cut, Weed & Apply Transfer Tape To Your Design.
Since you’re working with vinyl, you do not need to worry about mirroring your design. Just let it cut as is. Once you’ve cut the design, weed it.
This means that you will need to remove all of the excess vinyl from your vinyl sheet, leaving just the design itself on the paper.
Since you’ll be cutting this design in multiple colors, you’ll need to do this for each of the elements.
After you’ve weeded the design elements, cut a piece of transfer tape as big as your entire design and apply it to it, one element at a time.
Take your time with this part, and keep the design in view to try to mimic the same alignment and placement for your own.
I suggest using a scraper tool to secure the vinyl to the transfer tape without leaving any air bubbles.
Lastly, if possible, trim a nice circle around your design to help you with the curves of the ornament when you go to apply it.
TIP: I like to cut small slits all around my transfer tape to help me have more flexibility.
STEP 4: Align & Apply Design.
This is where you will benefit from having created the circle shape with your design in it within Design Space.
If you did this, then you can easily see where your design needs to be applied to make sure that its placement is even and pleasing to the eye.
If you did not do this, and want to ensure that your design is aligned properly on your Christmas ornament, it’s not too late to go back and do that step.
It’s just a good visual aid to help you out.
Once you know exactly where to place your design, apply it by pressing it from the middle and then outwards.
And that’s it!
You’ve made a lovely Christmas ornament that you can keep for yourself, or gift to a friend or family member.

I think this design would also look great on a small wood sign!
You can put it on your fireplace mantle next to a photo of the kids with Santa Claus.
Oh, that would be adorable right?
You can use this design for personal use. If you’d like to share it with your friends (I’d LOVE THIS!), I do ask that you just link them to this post and help support my website. Also, please don’t upload it to a print on demand (POD) website, or send it for mass production.
