Do you and you little ones spend time baking and decorating cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve? I know in my house this is a tradition, because my girls truly believe that Santa cannot finish delivering presents without one of grandma’s freshly baked sugar cookies.
Today I want to share with you two free cut files that I made that will help you use your cutting machine to decorate a blank plate and cup to put out all of Santa’s goodies. Your kids will love them and you will use them year after year.
These designs are simple to cut and you can make them in almost no time and for almost no money.
If you are thinking about selling sets of plates and mugs for the holidays, I still believe that ordering in bulk from the Dollar Tree online is the way to go. Not only do they offer free shipping to your local stores, but you cannot beat $1 for blanks. Your profit margins will be huge and you will still be providing a quality product.
The question I get the most about these designs is how to make the plates dishwasher safe and food safe.
The truth is that as far as dishwasher safe, you will probably not be able to offer this benefit to your customers. You will want to let them know that these plates and mugs are hand wash only. Dishwashers can sometimes run very hot and even permanent vinyl will start to peel off right away.
As for making these dishes food safe, you have 2 options because the truth is that no vinyl is food safe as of right now.
Option one is to use a clear plate and place the design on the bottom part of the plate so as to be able to see it still from the front, but not have the food come in contact with it.
Option two is to place the cookies only around the rim of the plate. This way the cookies would also not be touching the vinyl.
I think that both of these options are totally doable, and people won’t have a problem with them as solutions.
Now as mentioned above, you will want to use permanent vinyl to make both the plate and the mug. You can easily use scraps if you don’t plan to make the designs very big. Normally, if I use one 12×12 sheet of red, green and brown vinyl, I can make 4-6 sets of these Christmas cookie plates and mugs.
If you will be offering these for sale in your craft business and are wondering what to price them at, my suggestion is $8 for each individual item, or $15 for both. These are items that you will most definitely want to take with you to a holiday craft show and start promoting in your local groups as soon as possible.
QUICK NOTE: You can use these designs for personal and commercial use. If you’d like to share them with your friends (I’d LOVE THIS!), I do ask that you just link them to this post and help support my website. Also, please don’t upload these to a print on demand (POD) website, or send them for mass production.
Thank you so much for your support, and if you make anything with this design, tag me @PerfectStylishCuts, I love seeing your makes.
