Do you struggle to get the stockings hung for Christmas? Well, the good thing is that today is the 2nd Day of Craftmas at PerfectStylishCuts and I’ve got the perfect free svg to share with you today.
That’s right, today I’m going to share with you how to make a sign to hang your stockings from in case you don’t have a fireplace mantle or have over decorated yours (like me) to the point where there’s no room for stocking holders on it. So keep on reading.

If you’ve never created a sign before, and you’re wanting to create this, not to worry, I will walk you through this project step by step. First things first, let’s talk about the supplies that you’re going to need.
For this project you will need a piece of wood. I like to use pine wood because it’s smooth and doesn’t require sanding, but any kind of wood that looks good to you will do. You’ll want it cut about 8 inches tall by 36 inches wide if you plan to have 5 holders like in the photo above.
If you need more holders, feel free to make it a little wider and if you have less holders, you can make it smaller.
Either way, don’t let getting the piece of wood stop you from making this project. If you head to your local Home Depot, they will have pre-cut pieces of wood that are perfect for this project, and if you can’t find any in your store, you can have them cut you a piece for free.
Apart from the piece of wood, you will also need some stencil vinyl, clear transfer tape, the free svg that I provide at the bottom of this post, acrylic paint, some paint brushes and of course the red knobs that you’ll want to use.
If you’re wondering where to get red knobs from, I found them on Amazon for a great price, but feel free to look for them at the hardware store if you end up making a trip to get the wood.
Once you’ve gathered all your supplies, you want to open up the svg file in your cutting machine design program such as Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio, and arrange it as you’d like it to be cut. You can add deer or subtract deer depending on how many stockings you will have.
Now that you’ve done that, you’ll want to weld the design together, including the noses. This will help you to be able to cut your stencil all at once. If you’ve never cut a stencil longer than your 12×24 mat, this video will help you with that.
And now you’re ready to paint. Remember that since you’ll be using the red knobs for the deer noses, and you won’t be able to see behind them, you don’t have to paint the nose part red. Just paint it brown like the deer heads.
Once your paint is dry, simply attach the knobs using the instructions on the packaging and add some hardware for hanging in the back of the sign if needed. You do not need to seal this design, as it will be for indoor use only.
QUICK NOTE: You can use this design for personal and commercial use. If you’d like to share it with your friends (I’d LOVE THIS!), I do ask that you just link them to this post and help support my website. Also, please don’t upload it to a print on demand (POD) website, or send it for mass production.
I have a quick favor to ask. Before you download this freebie, please JOIN the Facebook Group (CLICK HERE), FOLLOW ME on Instagram (CLICK HERE) and if you can, please PIN one of the images above.
Thank you so much for your support, and if you make anything with this design, tag me @PerfectStylishCuts, I love seeing your makes.
