One of my favorite things to create for Halloween is signs. All kinds of signs.
I love to display them outside on the porch, on my fireplace mantle, and even in the kitchen and dinning room hutch.
These Free Hocus Pocus sign SVG files would be perfect for door hangers using the wood round signs that are super popular right now, and I’m going to tell you how to make them!
How To Make A Hocus Pocus Sign With Your Cricut
First things’s first, let’s make a list of all the supplies you’re going to need.
- A Round Wood Sign. (I got mine at Lowes and it’s the 18 inch one. Here are some from Amazon.)
- Stain. (I used Minwax True Black.)
- An old rag to or sponge to apply the stain.
- Iron-On Vinyl
- Heat Source (I used my Cricut EasyPress 2.)
- Your Cricut Cutting Machine With Design Space Readily Available

Now let’s get started!
STEP 1: Stain The Wood Round Sign.
To do this first I would suggest running a clean rag over the wood round sign to make sure it is free of dust and debris. Once it’s clean apply the stain using an old rag or a sponge.
If you want to have a darker color, you might try applying a thicker coat or even multiple coats of stain to your sign.
Remember to use gloves while applying the stain, and always do this out in the open, never inside.
Once you’ve finished staining it, let it dry completely for at least a few hours.
STEP 2: Upload the FREE Hocus Pocus Sign SVG File to Cricut Design Space and size it accordingly to the size of the wood round you are going to use.
You can get a good measurement by using a measuring tape and measuring how wide and tall you want your design to be on the wood round.
Once you have your measurement, adjust the size of your design inside of Design Space. Remember to hit the little lock icon closed before you change the size to retain the correct proportions.
STEP 3: Cut & Weed Design.
When you go to cut your design make sure you select the option to “Mirror” it. You always want to cut your iron-on vinyl on this setting.
Since we will be directly applying the design onto the sign, make sure that you only weed the excess parts of it.
STEP 4: Press The Design Onto The Wood Round.
I use my Cricut EasyPress 2 for projects like this, but you can use any other heat source you have available as well.
Pre-heat the wood by applying pressing it for 5 seconds to remove any excess moisture before applying the iron-on vinyl design.
Next you will align your design where it will go and then using firm pressure press it onto to the wood.
I pressed my design for 45 seconds at 300°F, and did a cool peel. That means that I waited till the design had cooled down before removing the clear transfer tape.
How To Make It A Door Hanger Sign
I find that it’s so easy to make these wood rounds into door hanger signs by using a heavy duty stapler and some thick jute twine rope.
If you don’t have these items you can also use your hot glue gun and just some ribbon, however I’m not sure how well that would hold up if your sign is on the heavier side, so I would weight my options.
Free It’s Just A Bunch Of Hocus Pocus SVG
This be great as a door hanger sign, but I also love the idea of putting it on a smaller sign to have on my mantle along with some black candles.
Because this is such a classic quote, it doesn’t matter what blank you put it on, it’s going to be perfect for Halloween!
Free I Smell Children SVG
My family and I usually go trick or treating and leave candy out on our front porch for kids to take.
This quote, I Smell Children, would be so perfect to have on my door or alongside my bucket of candy.
Free Hey Witches Sign SVG
Okay, this design is just hilarious, for more reasons than one right? You could put this on a witch themed wreath on your door, on a porch chair pillow and even on a door mat.
Free I Put A Spell On You SVG
This song quote from the movie is so cool for all the blanks you can find. Yes, again it would be a great Hocus Pocus sign for your door or your mantle, but also I can see putting this on a shirt for myself and using just a regular font to put in small letters “… and now you’re mine!” underneath it lol.
However you choose to use this design, I don’t think there’s anyone who won’t look at it and immediately think of the movie, which is just what you want!
Project Inspiration: I Put A Spell On You Sign
You don’t have to use wood rounds for these projects. You also do not have to make door hanger signs. You can always make a mantle sign by just picking a square framed sign. I like to look for signs like this in the clearance isle at Michaels and Hobby Lobby. If they have a design already on them, I just sand the sign down, wipe it up, and then repaint it so that I can apply my own design on it. Super simple to do!
Project Inspiration: Hocus Pocus Doormat
I think this design would be so fun on a doormat. You can make this Hocus Pocus doormat by simply buying a blank coir doormat, I like to get mine at Ikea or Target. And then you will cut out the design, but using stencil vinyl. You will apply the stencil vinyl down onto the doormat and then using some outdoor acrylic paint, you will just fill in the stencil using the colors of your choice. You don’t have to seal these mats if you use an outdoor paint.
Project Inspiration: Hocus Pocus Pumpkin Decal
If you’ve ever gone to Michaels any time around the Fall season, then you know that they have tons of different craft pumpkins available! These pumpkins are great for all kinds of decor, but I personally love to decorate them with vinyl decals. This design would be perfect to put on a pumpkin and display it for Halloween.
AND JUST IN CASE YOU’RE WONDERING …
FONT I USED IN THESE DESIGNS
– The font I used for these designs is called Hey Lovely Hearts. It’s SO beautiful and comes with lots of swirls, swashes and doodles. Plus, it’s a 2 for 1 – you get the print and script font!
